Taking advantage of the Sacrament of Reconciliation ("Confession," as we used to call it) is one of the most important things one can do as a Catholic. Not only is it an uplifting moment to actually be forgiven of our offenses by Jesus Himself through the power of His love in the priest's absolution, but the relief from guilt and the awareness of being in a "state of grace" encourages us to live more fully and happily in His love and mercy.
The Church teaches we must receive this blessed Sacrament at least once a year, but vigilant Catholics know that a more regular Confession leads to greater peace and joy. Jesus waits for us to come to Him, and even if it has been a while since our last Confession, He, and the priest in His Name, welcomes each of us with great joy to come before God for forgiveness.
